Apart from compelling beaches and amazing fun opportunities, Rimini also boasts a charming old town gathering impressive monuments, large squares and monumental avenues.
The Roman city centre develops along Corso d'Augusto, Rimini’s major arterial route which extends from the Arch of Augustus up to Tiberius Bridge, two of the city’s most representative monuments.
Corso d’Augusto is interrupted by Piazza Tre Martiri, Rimini’s so-called drawing room which is scattered with lively bars and stylish shops, and Piazza Cavour, the latter being dominated by Palazzo del Podestà, the current seat of the Town Hall.
The archaeological site of the so-called Domus del Chirurgo (Domus of the Surgeon) in Piazza Ferrari, which has recently been restored, bears witness to the vicissitudes patients experienced during the Roman Age.
The city is dominated by the medieval Sismondo Castle, the ancient residence of the Malatesta family which is now the seat of important events and exhibitions, and by the Renaissance Malatesta Temple (Duomo), which was designed by the popular architect Leon Battista Alberti and whose interior cherishes a precious crucifix by Giotto. Not to be missed are Palazzo dell'Arengo and the so-called "Fountain of the Cone", which are both situated in Piazza Cavour.
Rimini’s most interesting museums are the Museum of the City, which hosts a fine collection of artworks which have been realized since the Roman Age, and Fellini Museum, the latter being dedicated to the great director from Rimini. |

FOOD & COOKING
Are you interested in good cooking? Here three traditional specialities you should not miss:
- Piada. It is a thin (very thin in Rimini) flatbread, typically prepared in Romagna. It is usually made with white flour, water, lard and salt, and cooked on a terracotta dish, the so-called "testo". Piadinas are usually filled with a variety of cheeses, cold cuts and vegetables: the most famous filling includes ham, squacquerone cheese and wild rocket. Not to be missed is the famous Cassone, a particular type of piada which is usually filled with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese or stuffed with mixed vegetables!
- Fresh fish. Rimini is a charming seaside resort which offers tourists the possibility to eat tasty fish delicacies in the intimate trattorias of Borgo San Giuliano, the city’s ancient fishing village which was repeatedly celebrated by Federico Fellini, and in the elegant restaurants situated around the harbour. Ask for discounted tickets at our reception!
Both the city centre and the sea front are peppered with charming restaurants and inns which serve traditional specialities from Romagna, homemade pasta, earthy meat dishes and fresh vegetables.
Not to be missed are ethnic restaurants and fast-foods situated a short distance from the hostel.
- Wine. Sweet Albana, Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Rebola, Pagadebit and many more. Discover the Route of Wines and Flavours of Rimini’s Hills, visit the best cellars, taste D.O.C. “Rimini’s Hills” wines and buy them at reasonable prices. Tourists will also have the opportunity to taste D.O.P. “Romagna’s Hills” extra-virgin olive oil.
